Frequently asked questions for those considering purchasing the ebook...

Have you got any pictures of the Yacht you worked on?

Sure. Please take a look here.

The cost of the ebook is $19.95. Is that US dollars?

Yes. The standard currency for Internet transactions is in US$. You will be earning them soon enough anyway!

If you are as successful at this as you claim, why aren't you working on a Mega Yacht?

I was working as a deckhand on a 205 foot Mega-Yacht on a world trip, which is currently in Mexico. I decided it wasn't the right match for me and to return to Australia for the first time in 2 years, but I intend on working in the industry for a long time to come on various sized vessels.

The Yachts look very nice. Will I live in the same environment?

No. The crew live in the crew quarters, which are clean and modern, but quite small. Occasionally, you may be able to use some of the interior guest areas, but it depends on the Captain.

How much can I earn day working?

The rate ranges from $10 to $20 per hour if it is for highly skilled work. I did some for $10 and also a good chunk for $15.

Why don't you offer the ebook in a hard copy.?

Two reasons, first the information will change, and I want to be able to update it easily. Second, the whole publisher-author concept favors the publisher, yet without the author and his/her ideas, there would be no book. They are also very subjective about what they will and won't print, but by doing it myself, I have cut out both problems.

Why did you write the ebook in the first place?

This is not the first ebook I have written, and will not be the last. I am one of those people who is a good listener. I will ask questions, but actually listen to the answers. This habit, coupled with a very good memory, means I always find myself making notes about various things I am interested in pursuing. By the way, I am always willing to help anyone else with a great idea for an ebook get things rolling. Please let me know if I can help at all.

So if I follow your advice, I will be able to get a job, right?

I have made the whole thing almost idiot proof. You should be able to eliminate 90% of the mistakes I made, but there is still the X-factor - that is your own ability to screw up despite even the best advice.

What about timing, surely it makes a difference when I go over?

Well, for a start, I went over there at supposedly the ideal time and wasn't offered a suitable permanent job. Sure, I was contacted about a few permanent jobs, but at the time I thought they were not exactly what I was looking for. Whilst I thought I was doing the right thing, my lack of flexibility proved to be costly. You will find there is a trade off between what you think you want, what you think you're ready for and what will give you a start in the industry. The important thing is longevity. Not all jobs are a right fit, but as long as you are committed to working in the industry, it is case of no harm, no foul if you leave a job after only a few months.

So what was the point of your going over there if you didn't get a job?

What I did do, was the groundwork required so that when a good job came up later on, I was in the right position to take it. You should be there when the boats will be, but there is no right or wrong time to be anywhere. They will fly you to the boat if they want you.

I am highy skilled in Navigation. Does this mean I will be in demand?

The emphasis is on service rather than navigation or fire fighting or any other aspect of operating a boat. This is a very important concept to keep in mind. It is all about service. Did I mention the part about service yet?

Does it matter what I look like?

The owners of these boats are multi-millionaires and are very particular about who they want to see working around them, which is fair enough. They like people whose weight is in proportion to their height and in general good health. Some will also only employ non-smokers. If you are overweight, have long hair and smoke a pack a day, it is important to understand that you will need to change your image to have any chance at all. It is also important to remember that I don't directly offer people jobs, but I do give you all the help and information you need to find the right job for you.

Do you directly offer people jobs?

Until I am the Owner/Captain of a Mega-Yacht, or work as a crew agent, I won't be directly offering people jobs, although it is highly likely I will be contacted by Captains directly through this site at some stage in the future.
